Having just returned from holiday in SHARM EL SHEIKH, Egypt, i am saddened to say the the problems of cruelty to animals, especially street cats and dogs is still continuing.
The Egyptians do not seem to take on board, that there is no difference between a dog born a pet, and one born onto the streets.They label the street dogs as vermin. The Authorities in Egypt poison, stone, and shoot dogsif they receive complaints from residents about packs of dogs . They are allowed one bullet per dog, and if the dog is not killed outright, it is left wounded, on the street to die.Dogs are shot in the public eye, in front of local people, children and even tourists.
Last week i was shopping in Old Sharm, Sharm El Sheikh, and was horrified to see 2 little puppies, no more than 4 weeks old, wandering around in a dirty busy market place, in scorching heat, being kicked out of the way by passers by.I was absolutely broken hearted seeing this, and i was powerless to do anything to help these pups. Walking past street cafes dogs are begging for a little bit of food to keep them going.There is sadness and pain in their eyes. Others are ripping bags apart eating the trash food. The stench from the bins were gut churning, and these poor animals survive this way.There were kittens everywhere also.
If more animals were neutered and spayed to prevent breeding, the population would be reduced dramatically.Each week, Thomsons,Thomas Cook, and other airline fly thousands of holiday makers, out to Sharm El Sheikh, for a fabulous break. Having travelled to Sharm numerous times, it is a fabulous destination, offering sunworshippers a superb holiday, 5* luxury hotels, good nitelife, and lots of excursions to go on, and the best diving sites in the world. BUT IF YOU ARE AN ANIMAL LOVER, SOME OF THE
SIGHTS YOU WILL ENCOUNTER WILL BREAK YOUR HEART.WHEN YOU SIT DOWN TO YOUR DINNER OF SALMON, LOBSTER AND STEAKS, WONDERFUL DESSERTS, AND CHAMPAGNE, SPARE A THOUGHT FOR ALL THE KITTENS, PUPPIES AND THEIR PARENTS, BEGGING, AND RAKING THROUGH STINKING BAGS OF TRASH, TO FIND A BITE TO EAT, FOR SURVIVAL!!!!
I URGE YOU TO WRITE TO THE WRITE TO THE EGYPTIAN GOVERNMENT, ASKING FOR HELP FOR THESE ANIMALS, AND DONATE TO ANY CHARITY THAT CARES ENOUGH TO HELP THESE ANIMALS.
This has prompted me to do something positive to do my bit to help.I have gathered numerous names, addresses, veterinary contacts etc,with whom i can communicate and make a plan of action. i plan to send a cheque out to an organisation in Sharm or infact try to go back out this year to help.From our raffle in class, to date we have collected £100.
